Japan Inventory

The majority of salmon monitoring in Japan occurs as a part of hatchery operations and commercial harvest. Much of this is on and around the northern island of Hokkaido, where human population density is lower and some significant salmon rivers remain. No regular, long-term monitoring of wild salmon occurs in Japanese rivers, so State of the Salmon collected information on hatchery releases and returns as published by the Hokkaido Fish Hatchery and the National Salmon Research Center of Sapporo.
